Balinese Festivals March & April 2013

March is perhaps the most interesting month to visit Bali. In addition to many colurful ceremonies and rituals taking place all around the island Bali will celebrate Nyepi - the Balinese New Year and a day of total and complete silence. As well the end of March Bali celebrates Galungan, the beginning of a ten day period that symbolises the triumph of Dharma (virtue) over Adharma (evil). 

As well April is an important month with the celebration of Kuningan will brings the Galungan period to a close with ceremonies held for ancestoral spirits throughout Bali. That said, your Bali hotel concierge (or better yet any Balinese taxi driver) will be able to assist you to attend a ceremony to witness. Without further ado below are the most important festivals and ceremonies for March and April.

02 March (Saturday)
Ceremony: Hari Tumpek Uduh / Pengatag

06 March (Wednesday)
Ceremony: Hari Pucak Sari
