Amed is the northern most of seven villages that dot Bali's north-eastern coastline that includes (northwest to southeast) Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipa, Selang, Banyuning and Aas. Known mainly for diving and snorkeling, Amed is one of the main staging areas for visitors to dive the USS Liberty shipwreck off the coast at Tulamben. Only recently has development come to the Amed area but with its mountainous backdrop, beautiful coastline and peaceful, laid back atmosphere together with lots of good value for money accommodation Amed is making up for 'lost time'. Other activities and areas to explore in the area include Mt. Agung (hiking) Pura Besakih and the very interesting Tenganan Village (village of pre-Hindu Balinese).
